Iran-Azerbaijan rail transit up by 40% y/y in March-September

TEHRAN, Oct. 17 (MNA) – Over 322,000 tons of goods were transported between Iran and Azerbaijan through the Astara Railroad Terminal which shows a 40% hike in the first six months of the current fiscal (March 21-September 22), an official said.

A local rail official Gholamhossein Valadi said on Tuesday that a total of 322,000 tons of goods were transported between Iran and Azerbaijan through the Astara Railroad Terminal in the said period in terms of export, import, and transit, registering a 40% rise compared to the previous corresponding year.

He added that railroad exports to Azerbaijan stood at 98,000 tons during the period, while rail transit volume hit 128,000 tons.

A total of 95,976 tons of goods were imported which shows 107 percent year-on-year growth, he noted.

He added that citrus fruits, cement, chemicals, and tiles were the main exported commodities, while the main transited and imported products were wood and grains.
